六、結論
盡管這些年來，對論題的使用已經越來越少，這篇文章意在引起人們對論題之實用價值的注意。正如我們所爭論的，有時候，我們是“只見樹木，不見森林”。在論證理論方面，我認為，我們同樣也已經忽略了如何處理諸如論證的定位和建構等問題。發現和提出論證似乎很簡單，但是對于大多數學生和專業人士而言，論證是令人沮喪的，令人畏懼的，復雜的和無法逾越的。對于定位論證和建構論證而言，論題是非常重要的。然而，它們不僅僅是前提和結論的連接（建構論證），或者是論證的發現（定位論證）。它們同樣可以幫助我們的批判性思維能力和論證教學工作。此外，了解論題在當代的論證理論中是如何幫助構建和定位論證，將會使我們做得更好。因為它能幫助我們去揭露論證中更為深層次的意義，它們幫助我們更為成功的教授論證，它們幫助我們更為快速和有效的形成論證，它們幫助我們去依靠和增強當代的論證理論，它們幫助我們去識別和理解論證，它們幫助我們更為有效的，以更有成效的方式去評價和反駁論證，因此，論題是極為有用的和重要的。
我已經討論了在當代論證理論中，使用論題的至少四個好處：定位論證，建構論證，發展批判性思維能力，和教授論證和辯論。在這些和其他的方面，論題應該被重新發現并作為有用的工具，來改善論證的教學。正如我在討論教學時所描述的，對于所有的起步或高級的論證者而言，論題使論證教學變得簡化。對論題的使用，可以使我們去面對任何與論證指導相關的任務。當我們向學生宣傳我們的課程，或向教學管理員討論教學時，即便是使用我們自己的論題，都將會產生巨大的影響。簡而言之，論題對于我們的教學方法將會有非常重要的意義。
在一個比以往任何時候有更為較少的學生去學習論證的同時，但是任何一個人又同樣需要比以往任何時候去學習論證的時代，通過遺忘論題系統，我們短期的改變了自己。如果我們想要將學生吸引到課程上來，提升公民的批判性思維能力，將我們非常重要的努力同普通人和管理者聯系起來，我們必須不能忘記我們是如何到達我們現在所在的地方的。我們必須不能忘記我們是如何定義，定位以及花費我們的生活去探索和論證。我們必須不能忘記亞里士多德寫作《修辭學》的第一位的、主要的原因是：為了提供一個可用的指導使論證易于操作，以至于任何人都可以練習修辭學。論題幫助我們記住了論證的這些非常重要的方面。
