Chapter 2 Enlightenment of Chinese Traditional National Culture to Building of a Harmonious Socialist Society

Through long-term social and historical practice, the Chinese nature has formed unique natural culture and spirit, which can still be taken for reference in current construction of socialist culture. Our national culture particularly treasures "harmony" and "education", focusing on cultivating people's moral and spiritual sentiments, purifying human mind, motivating people's lofty spirit, developing people's positive love for life and pursuit of ideals. When realizing "harmony" and "education", it has come up with a whole set of value system, enlightening people to be patriotic, credible, just, kind, helpful and friendly; setting value codes for people's production and life practice by exhorting people to be good and guarding them against evil; and helping people make rational value judgments and select correct values. Such system of values still plays an important role in our building of a core socialist value system at present.
