Time for action - modifying the avatar's pants
We are now going to change out the lower, or pants, on the male character:
- With the male character selected, click on the Lower Body button under the Actor tab.
- Select the Diffuse channel.
- Load the Tartan diffuse map located in the Code Bundle of the book page on the Packt Publishing website.
- Set the tiles to 6 and 6.
We now have a leisurely attired male character. So let's do something for the female next:
- Click on or select the female character. Click on the Lower Body button under the Actor tab.
- Select the Diffuse channel.
- Click on the Launch button to load the image into your editor.
- Cover the bottom two-thirds of the image in black.
- Cover the upper one-third of the image in white.
- Save the image as
male_lower_opacity
, as shown on the right side of the following image: - Double-click on the lower Opacity channel and browse to the newly created opacity
map (male_lower_opacity)
and load it.
What just happened?
We changed the texture on the male and created shorts for the female. The female jeans had no opacity map so we launched the diffuse map to save as an opacity map, and to use it as a guide to how long or short we will cut off the pants. Remember, black hides and white shows. We are using the black to cut off some of the pant's leg to create shorts out of the pants, as shown in the following image:

Now our characters look more like they are relaxing at a home cookout with casual clothes.
