Time for action - altering female avatar clothing

In Chapter 1, Installing and Configuring iClone , we discussed how to select our image editing program via the Preference button (hammer icon) in the upper-right corner of the iClone interface. If you haven't set up your image editor, then you need to do so now. We'll be using Photoshop but the same principles apply to any image editor, including open source (free) editors like Gimp or Paint.net:

We will now lengthen her shirt to meet the top of her jeans. We will use the diffuse image to accomplish this:

What just happened?

We increased the length of the shirt by increasing the white area at the bottom of the shirt in the opacity map of the character's upper section. This is another area where experimentation with the opacity map will demonstrate its utility and power.

Altering clothing using color

Just like with the gazebo earlier, we can also use colors to change the diffuse map to alter the shirt. Even though we used the diffuse method in our project the alternative method can be very effective.

With the Upper Body selected, click on the Diffuse channel. Turn the diffuse slider all the way to zero to turn off the image so the black won't bleed through our new color. Set the three color choices to dark red or a color of your choice:
