Time for action - manipulating the atmosphere
While atmosphere isn't technically a light it does affect the mood of the scene so we will incorporate its use in this scene. There are also atmospheric presets available.
- Click the Stage tab and then click the Atmosphere button to give us access to the Atmosphere menu.
- Click or turn on the HDR Effect and then do the same with the Tone Map.
- Increase the Exposure under Tone Map to 40 to increase brightness.
- Set the Glare to Cheap Lens and the Scale to 1.
- Click or turn on IBL on in the Image Based Lighting section of the right side menu to further lighten the scene.
What just happened?
We turned on the HDR and Tone Map atmospherics. You will notice that the scene darkened significantly with the Tone Map checked. The glare was then scaled back to one and set on the Cheap Lens tool.
We are going to leave the rest of the settings at default as this is another area that may require some adjustment as we make progress on our scene. The Tone Map is affected by object and camera movement. It can brighten or darken the scene when these items are animated to move across the workspace.
