We worked with the grass and discussed different methods of prop placement. So let's continue by adding the Deckhouse prop to the scene:
In the Content Manager under the Scene tab and Prop button, you will find the Architecture folder. Drag-and-drop the Deckhouse A prop from that folder.
Scale Deckhouse A to 50 percent in the Transform | Scale section of the Modify panel. For uniform scaling check the LOCK XYZ box. Enter 50 into the first input box. Place your scaled-down prop in the desired location while making sure that all the legs of the deck are on or in the terrain.
What just happened?
It's time to learn about scale as not all props and other content are scaled to the proper size. In this case, the island terrain is a little too small for what we are going to build. We could have increased the island terrain earlier but that would mean we have a larger area to plant the Live Plants so we reduced the overall scale of the scene.
You can scale terrain up to meet your needs or scale the rest of the scene down. It depends on the demands of the scene, such as planting Live Plants over a large area versus a smaller area when scaled down. It's really a matter of personal preference. We chose to scale down in this project so that we could work with and understand the concept of scaling in a 3D workspace.
The next image shows Deckhouse prop at 100 percent scale on the left and 50 percent scale on the right:
Tip
Reset button
The Reset button at the bottom of the transformation section can be used to reset the prop to its original size. We can be fearless when experimenting with the settings as we can always restore the prop to its original state with one click of a button.
Have a go hero - modifying the scene
Now would be a great time to make any modifications to the scene. Scene building is a constant placement and movement of props to fit your idea of what the scene should look like.
Save your scene before continuing. Place a couple of trees near the house (Tree button under the Scene tab), and move the house to fit the land while making sure the stairs sit properly on the terrain.
It's time to preview what you have accomplished. Pull the preview camera back to frame the scene to your liking and press the play button. You will have grass, flowers, and trees moving in the wind with flowing water. Adjust the wind settings on the Live Plants and trees to your liking.
The following image is an example of the scene to this point. The exact placement of props and Live Plants will vary depending on choices made while we built the scene:
