Access to everyone
As with most operating systems, Windows 8 is available to the public in several editions. However, to use Unified Remote Access, you will require the Enterprise edition of Windows 8. There is also backward compatibility with Windows 7. We will discuss the supported Client and Server versions in later chapters.
If you do intend to provide access to Unified Remote Access to Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 clients, it's important to know that you will be required to configure a certificate infrastructure (also known as a PKI, or Public Key Infrastructure). A PKI will also be required if you intend to use two-factor authentication for your users.
We hope that this brief glance has you psyched already. The road ahead is wide and may be long for some, but once done, the ease of use for your users will be spectacular, and you are sure to feel the reduction in support volume once you finish ironing out the kinks. Get ready for some exciting times!
