Text files 

The following are the steps if you need to connect to a text file (such as a .CSV file):

1. Click on Text file in the list of available connections when you open Tableau.
2. Search for your text file (.txt, .csv, and so on) and double-click on it. As there are no different tables with text files, Tableau automatically takes the unique table available in the Data Source.

Sometimes, if the field separator is not standard, the Data Source shows an error. To correct that, you can manually specify the field separator, the text qualifier, the character set, and the locale. To do so, right-click on the table and select Text File Properties...:
