41　wear a cast, a reliable indication of caste

Henry：今天談甚麼？

趙Sir：Cast和caste的讀音相同而串法亦只差一個字，你知道它們的意思嗎？

Henry：Cast是電影中的演出人員，而caste則是印度社會一個階層。

趙Sir：全中！先談cast。Cast用作名詞（noun）有三個意思：

一、“演員陣容”，例如：

The play has a cast of four.

（該劇總共有四名演員。）

She was a member of the cast of “The Sound of Music” for years.

（她擔任“仙樂飄飄處處聞”的演員已有幾年。）

二、“（固定骨折的）石膏”，例如：

She broke her arm skiing and had to wear a cast.

（她滑雪時手臂跌斷了，只好打上石膏。）

三、“氣質、神情”，例如：

His face had a slightly greenish cast.

（他臉色稍微泛青。）

動詞（verb）cast也有三個意思：

一、“選角”，例如：

She was tired of always being cast as a sex symbol.

（她對總是飾演性感角色感到厭煩。）

二、“投以（眼光）”，例如：

She cast an impatient look at Michael, and stormed out of the room.

（她很不耐煩地看了米高一眼，然後衝出了房間。）

三、“鑄造”，例如：

The Roden sculptures are cast in Bronze.

（羅丹的塑像都是用青銅鑄造的。）

Henry：這是藝術作品。Caste又如何？

趙Sir：Caste是“（印度社會的）種姓”，例如：

Neither clothes nor profession is a reliable indication of caste.

（衣著和職業都不是種姓的可靠標誌。）
