Elite Embedment and Organizational Coordination:How to Succeed in Rural Self-governance?Based on Fieldwork in the“S”Village of Southwest China

Abstract: Based on the review and commentary of organizational coordination, embedment and self-governance theory, this paper builds a theoretical framework of elite embedment and organizational coordination, and then furtherly tests the framework by analyzing the case of S village which located in southwest China. We find that the embedment coordination between the political elites and civil elites in rural can reduce the cost of organizational coordination, and allocate scarce resources rationally in order to achieve a successful self-governance. This paper puts forward a self-governance theory with Chinese characteristics. Under the authoritarian regime, the political elites and civil elites, the nation and the society have to cooperate with each other to achieve a better governance.
