說起烏雞白鳳丸的由來，可謂歷史淵源久遠，最早可以追溯到三國時期的華佗。

有一年，華佗在徐土（今徐州）游學行醫。他的堂兄用小車把華佗母親推來了。華佗見母親年老病危，行動喘息，說話氣短，四肢無力，心里十分焦急。華佗母親拉著兒子的手，不禁淚流滿面。華佗為了安慰母親，便把他在外面苦求醫學的經過說了一遍。他母親聽了十分高興，說：“兒呀！只要你能學到治病本事，為貧苦人家治好病，為娘在九泉之下也就瞑目了。現在我已年老，又病成這個樣子，想在臨死之前再見你一面，就請你堂兄把我送來，咱娘兒倆說兩句話，娘就安心了。”華佗一聽，傷心地哭了起來，含著淚把母親的病仔細診察了一遍，見脈沉遲無力，生命危在旦夕，立即用人參煎湯給母親喝，病情略有好轉；但一停藥，病又加重。華佗見此情形，說：“母親，您抱病前來看望孩兒，孩兒未能盡孝，心中實在難過，先請堂兄送您回家，帶點藥路上吃，孩兒把幾個病人安排一下，隨后即回。”母親有氣無力地說：“我也知道自己不行了，如死在外面也會難為你；你快把病人安排安排，不要耽誤了人家的病，這是做醫生的道德。”

華佗把兄長叫到一旁悄悄囑咐說：“兄長，母病危重，六脈欲絕，估計不出三天，將要去世，請你路上小心照顧；我已準備好人參湯和急救藥，路上代茶飲，以防中途去世，我隨后趕回。”華佗含淚送走母親后，忙把尚未治愈的病人，一一安排妥當，第二天起早就回家了。走了一天一夜終于到家了，到家一看母親不但沒死，反而能坐起來說話。華佗驚喜交集，心中不由疑惑起來：這是怎么回事呀？難道我診斷有誤？華佗隨即問堂兄：“你在路上給母親吃過什么呀？”堂兄想了一會說：“在回來的那天晚上，住在一個小莊上，嬸娘想喝口雞湯，全村九戶人家，養的都是母雞，都舍不得賣。只有一家喂了一只公雞，商量了半天，才把這只公雞買來，借了個鍋，熬了些湯，我把帶來的人參湯和急救藥放在雞湯里一煮，讓她老人家喝了一碗，她感覺很舒服，半夜又喝了一碗，第二天早上，全溫給老人家喝了。回到家，老人家感到病好多了。”

華佗又問：“你買的雞是什么樣的？”

“白毛、鳳頭、皮肉都是黑的。”

華佗聽罷，心想：白毛、黑皮、黑肉，頭上羽毛如鳳，再加上人參湯，難道是它起的作用？立即記下，于是到街上買了一只白毛黑皮的鳳頭雞，按原法煮給母親喝。華佗母親的病逐漸好轉了。原來人參大補元氣而補五臟，烏雞滋養陰血而補肝腎，有氣血同補，陰陽雙調之功效。后來，華佗又用此法，治好了許多患有同樣病癥的人。

The Great Doctor Hua Tuo and Wuji Baifeng Pill

Speaking of origin of Wuji Baifeng Pill,it has a long history.The story can be dated back to the period of Three Kingdoms（184—280），and a doctor called Hua Tuo must be mentioned.

Once upon a time,Hua Tuo（145—208）was practising medicine in Xutu（now Xuzhou）.His cousin wheeled his mother in a small cart to see him.Hua Tuo saw that his old and ill mother felt short of breath,with myasthenia of limbs.He was very worried.Hua Tuo's mother,holding her son's hands,burst into tears.In order to comfort his mother,Hua told her his experience in studying medicine.His mother was very pleased and said，"y son!As long as you can obtain the skill of treatment,and cure the disease for the poor,I will not feel regret when I die.Now that I am old and ill,I would like to see you again before dying,so I ask your cousin to send me here.Having chatted with you,I have no regrets." Hua Tuo can not help crying as he heard these words.With tears in his eyes,he examined his mother's disease carefully and found that her pulse was too weak and her life was in danger,so he decocted the medicinal ginseng for her immediately.His mother got better slightly.However,once she stopped drinking the medicine,the disease got worse.Hua Tuo saw the situation and said，"om,you came to see me,but I am sorry that I had to work,so I'll ask my cousin to send you home first.Some medicines are prepared for you on the way,and I will be back soon." His mother said，" know I am dying.I don't mean to be hard on you.Don't delay the patient's treatment since you are a doctor."

Hua Tuo called his brother to walk aside and whispered to him，"ur mom is seriously ill,and her pulses were feeble.She may pass away in three days.Please take care of her.I have prepared ginseng soup and some first-aid medicine,which can replace the tea on the road.I will be back as quick as possible." With tears in his eyes,Hua Tuo sent his mother away and soon arranged the patients who had not been treated,and then he went home early the next morning.After a day and a night walking,he finally reached home.When he arrived,he saw his mother still alive!Even better!She could sit up and talk.Hua Tuo was so surprised and happy,but also confused:What happened?Did I diagnose her wrongly?Then he asked his cousin，"hat did you give our mom to eat on the way home?" The cousin thought for a moment and said，"n the way home,we put up in a small village for a night.Mom wanted to have some chicken soup,but all the nine families in the village raised only hens to lay eggs and no one was willing to sell there.Only a family fed a cock.Upon persuading,the family finally agreed to sell it to us.I borrowed a pot and cooked some chicken soup with the ginseng and the first-aid medicine we had bought with us,and then let our mom drink.She felt very comfortable.At midnight she drank the soup again,and the next morning,she drank up all the soup.When we were back home,our mom felt much better."

Hua Tuo asked once more，"hat kind of chicken did you buy?"

"he one with white hair,phoenix head and black flesh."

Hua Tuo committed it to memory:white chicken,black skin,black meat,head feather like phoenix,with some ginseng.Did the cock really play a role?He wrote down the prescription and bought the same white chicken.According to his cousin's method,Hua Tuo cooked the soup for his mom.His mother's illness gradually recovered.The pharmacodynamics is that the ginseng has the function of tonifying primordial qi and the five internal organs,and the chicken can nourish yin-blood liver and kidney,having the function of tonifying qi and blood and taking care of both Yin and Yang.Later,Hua Tuo cured many people of the same symptoms with this prescription.
