We have our starting key frame set so we need to move down the timeline and manipulate the arm:
Move 50 to 100 frames down the Timeline with the scrubber to a blank frame. We will execute the arm movement from this point. This key frame can be adjusted later if necessary.
Note
Whatever you have to do, DO NOT MOVE THE ACTOR FROM its PHYSICAL LOCATION. We don't want to move the actor because that would cause the actor to slide around on playback. You can use Ctrl + Z to undo if you accidentally move the actor.
Select the upper right arm. We will be using the rotate tool move it towards the grill handle. Don't worry about getting the hand on the grill handle at this point, just move it to its approximate position near the handle without modifying or moving the grill.
With the Red axis selected (right-click to change axis) move the arm up.
Right-click twice for the Blue axis then rotate the arm away from the character body.
Right-click twice to get to the Green axis and roll the arm down to get the hand into the proper position.
The following image shows the red key frame we created with the double-click and the blue key frame we created manually:
What just happened?
Moving the upper body down and the arm up has given us some closure on the grill handle. Don't rotate the body too low or you will be short of your target. Rotate the upper arm too high and we will lose the natural look.
It's time to make more adjustments to the position of our props. We want to move the grill closer and scale it down. We will move the grill into place at our current position on the timeline so we can see where it needs to go.
