Now we get to have a lot of fun by adding one of the strongest components of any story—the characters.
In the world of iClone, actors, avatars, and characters are the same thing. They are pre-rigged functional 3D characters than can be animated and have a built-in automatic lip-sync feature. Characters can use pre-made motions or animations and can be keyframed manually with the timeline.
Clothing can be modified to suit the needs of the scene. Facial features and other aspects of the character can be changed with the click of a button or the move of a slider control. Body parts can be changed and even hair and shoes can be modified.
In this chapter we shall:
Add characters to a scene, change their features, and learn to manipulate them
Use characters with accessories and animated props as well as interactive props (iProps)
Change or modify the character's looks and clothing
Get a handle on basic dialog and how to get audio dialog into iClone and the right character
Tip
Save your project and save often!
Reallusion is attempting to put very powerful 3D tools into anyone's hands that will run on a wide variety of computers and crashes will happen to varying degrees. Always save your projects many times while working.
Time spent saving your project will be much easier to handle than losing a few hours of work or worse yet… that perfect tweak that you may never reproduce!
When in doubt… SAVE!
So let's get to the task at hand—adding and manipulating characters!
