Time for action - importing animated props
Now that we've got the beer, we need the outdoor grill. There is no grill in the stock installation of iClone and so I will provide you with an animated grill that I've created just for this occasion! The grill is available in the code bundle of the book web page on the Packt Publishing website.
- Download the grill and import or drag-and-drop the animated prop into the workspace.
- If the grill disappeared like the beer prop, then follow the preceding linking instructions and link the grill to a section of the house porch by using the Position and Rotation option to put the grill where you can find it. Unlink the grill before using.
- Reduce the scale of the grill to 50% in the Scale input boxes on the right menu.
- Right-click on the grill and select the perform menu choice in the popup by right-clicking the menu.
- Choose the
open lid
command.
Note
This grill is not interactive, but it is animated (the lid opens with built-in motion). This means the character will not automatically open the grill with their hand. We will do this in the animation chapter by placing the hand in the proper positions. We will also add smoke particles in the chapter explaining particles and their usage.
Tip
Downloading the example code
You can download the example code files for all Packt books you have purchased from your account at http://www.PacktPub.com. If you purchased this book elsewhere, you can visit http://www.PacktPub.com/support and register to have the files e-mailed directly to you.
What just happened?
We have placed an animated prop into the scene and triggered one of the animations embedded into the prop to open the grill top. We will add Particle FX to the grill in the Chapter 5, Enhancing Animation with Particles and add glow to the charcoal Glow map when we cover the map channels later in this chapter.
The next image shows the right-click menu with the Open Top command under the Perform menu choice. This starts the animation at the point you click on the command and will run until the animation is complete or you press the stop button.
