Using the Endpoint Configurator
The Endpoint Configurator menu allows us to search within a network for the presence of any connected IP devices (or endpoints) that are already configured/provisioned or that could be configured/provisioned.
It also allows us to change the current configuration of an already configured device, and generate or regenerate its configuration files (if supported). It can also generate the configuration files for some supported media gateways, for manufacturers such as Patton or Audio Codes. It uses the following options:
- MAC address
- IP address
- Vendor
- Model
- Extension to assign
- Current extension
The actions are as follows:
How to do it…
- Enter the subnet to scan to see whether or not there are any IP devices suitable that are for configuration.
- Click on Discover Endpoints in this Network.
- Depending on the vendor, select the model.
- Assign an extension.
- Click on the Set to configure the device button.
- Reboot the device.
- Verify its correct configuration.
The next image shows the endpoint configuration menu, showing the procedure for setting SIP extension 7003 with Aastra phone model 6731i:

In this chapter we have seen the recipes that will allow us to set up the IP-PBX part of our Elastix Unified Communications Server very easily to have a few extensions configured and let them call and receive calls internally, as well as from the outside world (PSTN).
