Cardinal is OpenDaylight monitoring as a service component which  allows ODL and  software-defined network to be remotely monitored by a Network Management System (NMS). It provides a northbound REST API as well as SNMP (v2c, v3) to OpenDayLight.

Also, as a basic feature, it supports sending SNMP trap messages to trap receivers; this is similar to all other networking equipment. It also supports the basic security features of SNMP v3 with authentication and encryption and allows you to have secure communication between NMS and ODL.
