Yes, you got it right, CAPWAP or Control and Provisioning of Wireless Access points! It is a module to let ODL manage the Wireless network and access points. ODL uses CAPWAP as a southbound protocol to directly communicate with wireless access points.

The aim of CAPWAP is to support a basic implementation of the CAPWAP protocol. The message parser of the CAPWAP project can work with headers and message elements. It also supports DTLS encryption, but the implementation of DTLS is currently very limited.

It is one of the cool features of ODL and will be an enabler of wireless SDN in future, which will support both IOT applications and access to them.
