Inertial Measurement Unit

The Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) is an electronics module, which collects angular velocity, specific force, and linear acceleration data using a combination of accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers. In HoloLens, the IMU is mounted on the holographic lenses, right above the bridge of your nose.

Environment Understanding Cameras provide us digital space of our real world; the IMU captures the movement of our head and calculates the latest position information into the display as quickly as possible so that our device can render the information on field.
