Business viewpoint
The business viewpoint addresses the business concerns and expectations to be considered in defining the business value the IIoT needs to address. The business viewpoint begins with the stakeholders for each viewpoint, and identifies their vision and values for the project and the company. The vision determines the business direction and describes the future state of the organization. The vision is reflective of the values of the stakeholders and the organization, and may play a role in the perception of the IIoT system.
The business viewpoint defines the key objectives of the system, as expressed by senior business and technical leaders, in keeping with the vision and values. Key objectives describe the expected outcomes from the system, and should be measurable and time-bound, for example, 10% cost savings within 2 months.
Fundamental capabilities define the system's ability to perform major business activities and are not concerned with how the system will be implemented or what technologies will be used. The key objectives and fundamental capabilities ultimately determine the framework for the usage activities and system requirements (Figure 2.3: Business vision and value driven model).
The business viewpoint also defines the fundamental success criteria on which the resultant IIoT system will be evaluated to determine if it meets the key objectives. This is represented in the following model diagram:
