Henry：今天談甚麼？

趙Sir：讓我們談?wù)刡lew和blue這對同音異義字的用法。

Henry：Blew是blow的過去式（past tense），而blue是“藍(lán)色的”。

趙Sir：Blew有以下五個意思：

一、“吹、刮”，例如：

A strong gust of wind blew his hat off his head.

（一陣大風(fēng)把他的帽子從頭上吹了下來。）

二、“（用嘴）吹氣”，例如：

He bent towards the candle and blew gently.

（他彎下腰朝蠟燭輕輕吹氣。）

She picked up a book and blew the dust off it.

（她拿起一本書並吹走它的灰塵。）

三、“吹響”，例如：

The guard blew his whistle and the train started.

（列車長吹了哨子，火車便開動了。）

四、“使（電器）燒壞、使（保險(xiǎn)絲）燒斷”，例如：

A power surge blew all the fuses, and the house was plunged into darkness.

（電力急增，把所有保險(xiǎn)絲都燒斷了，房子陷入一片漆黑。）

五、“（非正式）糟蹋（良機(jī)）”，例如：

We were in with a good chance for that contract but you blew it.

（我們本來很有機(jī)會簽下那份合約，可是你現(xiàn)在真的把它糟蹋了。）

Henry：真可惜！Blue又如何？

趙Sir：Blue是“藍(lán)色的”，是特別顏色，有時(shí)“蔚藍(lán)的”，例如：

The sky was gloriously blue.

（天空亮麗蔚藍(lán)。）

但有時(shí)卻令人“沮喪的”，例如：

She usually calls her mother when she's feeling blue.

（她情緒低落時(shí)通常會致電給母親。）

至於once in a blue moon，卻有“難得、千載難逢”之意，例如：

They come to visit once in a blue moon.

（他們難得來作客。）
