Chapter 2. Images for Admins and Editors

One of the most important issues for an administrator of a site is how to display the images. Whether for a multimedia paradise with thousands of photos uploaded every day or for a largely static brochure site for a local mom and pop, the administrator needs to put some thought into how images will be uploaded and displayed.

Fortunately for us, the Web has a long history of displaying images, and hundreds of people have put countless hours in creating some fantastic tools in Drupal to help us meet our ends. This chapter will introduce us to some of the common techniques of handling images and show us how to make our jobs as administrators and editors easier.

Unfortunately, there are endless requirements for images on a site, and literally dozens of modules that have been created to handle custom needs. An entire book could easily be written on images in Drupal alone, which would leave us with no space to cover other media elements.

Thus, we'll cover enough to get you started and learn some powerful techniques that may be used in a wide array of unique circumstances.
