Chapter 3. A Brief Tour of Plone
Plone is a web browser based CMS where users of the system can focus on adding content to the site in a collaborative environment. Navigation and page layout is handled as a layer that web designers and developers can build or extend upon. The default install of a fresh Plone site has an excellent structure already created. So, unless specific customization is desired, you can mainly focus on adding content. To get comfortable with logging on and navigating within a Plone site, the examples in this chapter will be using the default Plone structure. We will focus on elements that are typical of many Plone-based sites. From time to time, you will see 'covered later', or 'advanced topic'. This is due to the depth of functionality that Plone offers. This chapter is about getting your feet wet.
In this chapter, Tom Conklin explains how to log into a Plone-based site, and explains the basics of navigating around a site, by going over common web page elements and terminology.
