LESSON 15 HARRY AND ANNIE 哈里和安妮

1.Harry and Annie lived a mile from town, but they went there to school every day.It was a pleasant walk down the lane, and through the meadow by the pond.

2.I hardly know whether they liked it better in summer or in winter.They used to pretend that they were travelers exploring a new country, and would scatter leaves on the road that they might fi nd their way back again.

3.When the ice was thick and fi rm, they went across the pond.But their mother did not like to have them do this unless some one was with them.

4.“Don’t go across the pond today, children,” she said, as she kissed them and bade them good-by one morning; “it is beginning to thaw.”

5.“All right, mother,” said Harry, not very good-naturedly, for he was very fond of running and sliding on the ice.When they came to the pond, the ice looked hard and safe.

6.“There,” said he to his sister, “I knew it hadn’t thawed any.Mother is always afraid we shall be drowned.Come along, we will have a good time sliding.The school bell will not ring for an hour at least.”

7.“But you promised mother,” said Annie.

8.“No, I didn’t.I only said ‘All right,’ and it is all right.”

9.“I didn’t say anything; so I can do as I like,” said Annie.

10.So they stepped on the ice, and started to go across the pond.They had not gone far before the ice gave way, and they fell into the water.

11.A man who was at work near the shore, heard the screams of the children, and plunged into the water to save them.Harry managed to get to the shore without any help, but poor Annie was nearly drowned before the man could reach her.

12.Harry went home almost frozen, and told his mother how disobedient he had been.He remembered the lesson learned that day as long as he lived.

1.哈里和安妮住在離城里一英里遠(yuǎn)的地方，但是他們每天都要去位于市區(qū)的學(xué)校上學(xué)。沿著小巷和牧場(chǎng)中的池塘邊散步，是一件快樂(lè)的事情。

2.我不知道他們是喜歡夏天還是喜歡冬天。他們?cè)?jīng)假裝自己是探索新國(guó)度的旅行者，將樹(shù)葉灑在路上，以便再次找到歸途。

3.當(dāng)池塘里的水結(jié)成堅(jiān)硬厚實(shí)的冰時(shí)，他們便從冰上穿過(guò)池塘。但是媽媽不想讓他們這么做，除非有大人在旁隨行。

4.一天早上，媽媽吻別他們后，說(shuō)：“孩子們，今天不要從池塘的冰上走了，因?yàn)楸呀?jīng)開(kāi)始融化了。”

5.“好吧，媽媽。”哈里有點(diǎn)不耐煩地說(shuō)，因?yàn)樗浅Ｏ矚g在冰上滑行。當(dāng)他們來(lái)到池塘?xí)r，冰看起來(lái)還是那么堅(jiān)硬結(jié)實(shí)。

6.哈里對(duì)他的小妹妹說(shuō)：“看，我就知道冰還沒(méi)有化呢。媽媽總是擔(dān)心我們被淹死。來(lái)吧，我們?cè)俸煤玫鼗淮伪W(xué)校的鐘聲還要一個(gè)小時(shí)才敲響呢。”

7.“但是，你已經(jīng)答應(yīng)媽媽了。”安妮說(shuō)。

8.“不，我沒(méi)有答應(yīng)。我只是說(shuō)‘好吧’，它也有‘沒(méi)關(guān)系’的意思。”

9.“我什么也沒(méi)說(shuō)，所以我可以做任何自己喜歡的事情。”安妮說(shuō)。

10.于是，他們踏上了冰面，開(kāi)始滑行著穿越池塘。但還沒(méi)走多遠(yuǎn)，冰面就開(kāi)始塌陷了，他倆都掉進(jìn)了水里。

11.在附近池塘邊干活的一個(gè)男人聽(tīng)到了孩子們的尖叫聲，一頭扎進(jìn)水里去救他們。哈里掙扎著自己游到了岸邊，但可憐的安妮卻差點(diǎn)兒被淹死，幸好那個(gè)男人抓住了她。

12.哈里到家時(shí)幾乎被凍僵了，他告訴媽媽自己是多么的不聽(tīng)話。今天這個(gè)教訓(xùn)令他終生難忘。
