If you do not have access to a web server, you can download the free Acquia Dev Desktop package, which contains everything you need for a local Drupal development stack in a single cross-platform download. As development is much easier on a local basis, this book assumes that you are using Acquia Dev Desktop, and the rest of this chapter explains how to get your Drupal Commerce store up and running in a local environment. The instructions here also assume that you are using Mac OS X, but will work equally well in Windows.
