JDBC 4.0 support in MySQL Database
MySQL database server provides support for the JDBC 4.0 specification in the Connector/J 5.1 JDBC drivers. MySQL's Connector/J 5.1 supports the JDBC 4.0 features, listed below:
- Auto-registration of the JDBC driver with the
DriverManagervia the J2SE Service Provider mechanism. - Connection validity check using the
isValid()method of theConnectioninterface. - Categorized
SQLExceptionsbased on recoverability or retry-ability, and class of the underlying error. - Unwrapping of MySQL-specific extensions for JDBC.
- Support for
SQLXML. MySQL database does not support the SQL: 2003 SQL data typeXML. JDBC 4.0 specification does not specify that the SQL data type to store aSQLXMLobject is required to be the SQL: 2003XMLdata type. MySQL's Connector/J 5.1 JDBC driver supports theSQLXMLJava data type. - Support for setting per-connection client info using the
setClientInfo()method of theConnectioninterface. - Support for National Character Set data types NCHAR, NVARCHAR, LONGNVARCHAR, and NCLOB.
