數詞是用來表示數目或順序的詞。表示數目的叫基數詞，表示順序的叫序數詞。

一、基數詞

最基本的基數可見下表，其他數詞可由這些詞組成。

1.兩位數的讀法：數字超過二十以上，由“Ⅲ欄+Ⅰ欄”組成，中間加連詞號（即“-”）。例如：

25——tweny-five,59——fifty-nine

2.三位數的讀法：先讀出“第一個數+hundred+and+后面的兩位數字”。例如：

101——one hundred and one,315——three hundred and fifteen,989——nine hundred and eighty-nine

3.四位數以及四位數以上數字的讀法：每三位數隔一段，用逗號分開，從后往前數。即：thousand,million,billion。例如：

2,300——two thousand three hundred

6,789——six thousand seven hundred and eighty-nine

12,345——twelve thousand three hundred and forty-five

32,645,876——thirty-two million six hundred and forty-five thousand eight hundred and seventy-six

注　只有在hundred一詞后加and。此外hundred,thousand,million,billion表示具體數字時，沒有復數形式。如果是復數形式，其意義應為：hundredsof...數以百計，hundreds of thousands數以十萬計，hundreds of millions成億，millions of...數百萬。

二、序數詞

基數詞變為序數詞時有下列三種構成法：

1.一般在基數詞的詞尾加th，發音為[θ]，前面加定冠詞the。例如：第六（由six→the sixth），第十八（由eighteen→the eighteenth），第一百（由one hundred→the one hundredth）。

2.以y結尾的基數詞，先變y為i，再加eth，發音為[iθ]，前面加定冠詞the。例如：第二十（由twenty→the twentieth），第七十（由seventy→the seventieth）。

3.下面七個為不規則變化：

第一（one→the first），第二（two→the second），第三（three→the third），第五（five→the fifth），第八（eight→the eighth），第九（nine→the ninth），第十二（twelve→the twelfth）。

三、數詞的用法

1.編了號的東西，既可用序數詞，也可用基數詞。例如：第三課the Third Lesson或Lesson Three；第十六頁the sixteenth page或page sixteen。

2.數字較大的，一般用基數詞。例如：第403號房間Room 403，第一五四中學the No.154 Middle School，電話：892841 Telephone No.892841。

3.年、月、日、時間的表示法如下：

1800年（讀作eighteen hundred）

1905年（讀作nineteen hundred and five）

1985年（讀作nineteen eighty-five），2000年（讀作year two thousand）

1949年10月1日（寫法為Oct.1,1949，讀作October the first,nineteen forty-nine）三點鐘（three o'clock）

四點零五分（five past four或four five）

七點三十六分（twenty-four to eight或seven thirty-six）

六點一刻（a quarter past six或six fifteen）

九點半（half past nine或nine thirty）

十點三刻（a quarter to eleven或ten forty-five）

4.分數表示法：分子用基數詞，分母用序數詞，除了分子是“1”的情況下，分母的序數詞都要用復數。例如：
