1 Laurence Brewer, a 43-year-old British man, had a serious illness three years ago. His doctor told him that he would quickly lose the ability to speak and only had five years to live at the most.

2 Brewer was very sad about this. He had a 13-month-old son, Stan, and he didn't want to leave him alone. Then, a friend of his, Daniela, told him about the voice software called “Model Talker”. People that are going to lose the ability to speak use this software to record their voices. ①Therefore, they can use the software to make sentences to say to other people after they lose the ability to speak.

3 “Laurence used to play and sing in a band, ②so his voice is important to him. And I hope Stan will be able to hear his father's voice, ” said Daniela.

4 To be able to read to his son, Brewer decided to open a voice bank for him. ③He used Model Talker to record 1,600 basic phrases and sentences.

5 “I wouldn't do this if it wasn't for Stan. Knowing that he will be happy if I can keep reading to him is my only motivation.” said Brewer.
