8. Some Basic Values of the Chinese People (Part Three)

The Chinese nation has been paying great attention to the unity of all the ethnic groups of China and the national unity.

From the old times, the 56 peoples of China have worked hard and lived across China.They have helped each other and learned from each other over long years and thus formed a unified multiethnic country.Keeping solidarity and unity of the Chinese nation is the basis for the“great revival”of the Chinese people and is the basic interest of all Chinese.Since the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, the Constitution has been providing the system of regional autonomy for ethnic minorities in areas where different ethnic minorities live together.Great social and economic progress has been made in those areas.The relationship of equality, unity and mutual assistance among all the ethnic minorities has been growing.

Dr.Sun Yat-sen(孫中山), the great pioneer of the Chinese democratic revolution pointed out that“China is a united country. That has deeply existed in its historical identity, which has brought us together.”In thousands of years of the Chinese civilization，staying together as a country has been the main trend of history and a noble goal generations of Chinese people have had.There is only one China in the world.It is the common wish of the people of China to reunify their motherland.
